People who track water with friends stick with it
How we measured it: everyone who signed up for Waltermelon between October 2025 and mid-September 2026, each with at least 30 days in the app. “Added a friend” counts friends added in the first week, so people who stayed longer don’t get extra time to qualify. “Still using” means they logged a drink 30 or more days after signing up. All five of the longest streaks in the app belong to people with friends. This is a correlation from our own data, not a controlled study. Updated October 17, 2026.

Your friends list shows each friend’s streak and how close they are to today’s water goal, right next to yours. Tap a friend to see their week.
- 3
Cheer and nudge

Water tracker with friends: FAQ
Is there a water tracker app I can use with friends?
Yes. Waltermelon is a free water tracker app for iPhone and Android built for drinking water with friends. You add friends with a link or code, see each other’s streaks and daily progress, send cheers and nudges, and take on water challenges together.
Can I remind a friend to drink water?
Yes. In Waltermelon, when a friend falls behind on their water goal, you can send them a nudge and they get a water reminder from you. You can also cheer them on when they hit their goal.
Is Waltermelon free to use with friends?
Yes. In Waltermelon, friends, nudges, cheers and a 3- or 7-day water challenge with friends are free, with no ads. Joining a challenge a friend started is always free. Premium adds more challenge types and lengths, plus things like logging any drink by typing it.
Do my friends need the same phone as me?
No. Waltermelon works on iPhone and Android, and friends on either can follow each other and do water challenges together.
What can my friends see?
In Waltermelon, your friends see your streak, how much you’ve had today against your goal, and which days this week you hit it. They also see your activity, like hitting your goal, streak milestones and achievements. They never see what you drank, only the totals.
How does a water challenge with friends work?
In Waltermelon, you invite friends, as many as you like, and pick the challenge and how long it runs. Everyone drinks toward their own daily goal, not one shared number, and the team doesn’t need a perfect run: one missed day won’t end it. If the group makes it, everyone earns the same number of Drops, Waltermelon’s in-app reward, and the reward grows with every friend up to a team of 4.
Can I use Waltermelon with my partner or family?
Yes. Anyone can be a friend in Waltermelon, so couples, families and roommates use it to keep each other drinking water. Add each other with a link or code and you’ll see each other’s progress every day.
How many friends can I add in Waltermelon?
As many as you like. Waltermelon has no limit on friends, and a water challenge can include as many of them as you want (each friend can be in one shared challenge at a time).
Does tracking water with friends really help?
In Waltermelon’s own data it does. Among people who signed up over the past year, those who added a friend in their first week were 3 times as likely to still use the app after a month as those who didn’t, and 4.5 times as likely to reach a 30-day streak. It’s a correlation, not a controlled study, but we see the same pattern every time we look.
Does Waltermelon work with Apple Watch?
An Apple Watch app is in the works. Today Waltermelon runs on iPhone and Android, with home screen widgets for one-tap logging and sync with Apple Health and Health Connect.
